协和古北 员工专业学习项目全面启动

Here at SUIS-Gubei, we began week 2 of the semester with the inaugural meetings of our 2019-2020 round Professional Learning Groups (PLGs) with topics ranging from Technology Integration in the Classroom, and Statistics Support for Research Projects, toPositive Behaviour Management, Creating Dialogue Through Meaningful Feedback and Effective Activity Organization, Over the last four years we have been developing our PLG programme to allow teachers to explore topics for inquiry, discussion and research on pedagogical issues of their own interest. The groups bring together teachers from across different subject areas and year groups to explore common interests in developing aspects of teaching and learning. The spaces carved out in the time table for these groups have over the years afforded us an opportunity to explore new ideas, share good practice, and reflect on the impact these ideas have on our teaching and learning. The result has been a burgeoning positive atmosphere of inquiry, where teachers know their ideas and professional well-being matters and will be supported by the leadership team.

开学第二周,协和古北2019-2020年度员工专业学习组项目再度拉开帷幕(Professional Learning Groups,简称PLGs)。学习小组选题多元,兼具实用性与学术性,从课堂教学技术整合、数据支持下的项目研究、正面行为管教到如何通过有意义的反馈建立对话、如何高效组织活动等丰富全面、不一而足。该项目开办至今已近四年,在领导层的大力支持下,成效显著。它集不同学科不同年级的老师们于一堂,为他们搭建了探索新理念、分享优秀经验的平台;它鼓励教师们根据自己的兴趣去探索、研讨教学相关课题,在实现自我专业发展的同时也能将所思所想所学反哺课堂。

 

Every semester our teachers and leadership team step up to offer new and innovative topics of study. The PLG Topics are explored over 8-10 weeks and culminate in a day-long exhibition of professional development in which group leaders take turns presenting the outcomes of their learning with staffs and delivering mini-workshops for those who throughout the semester participated in other PLGs. At the end of each of these PD days departments are given an opportunity to come together to brainstorm how to apply what they have learned in the PLGs to their planning for the following semester. The impact this system has had on teaching and learning is evident in the inspiring and active teaching we can see every day at SUIS Gubei, and the passionate discussions you can overhear in the staff break room and planning offices.

每学期,我校教师与领导层都致力于提供更新、更具创意的学习课题。每期学校小组历时八至十周,并于期末举行为期一天的专业学习展示(教师职业发展日)。在发展日当天,各学习小组组长将带领组员展示他们一学期的学习成果并举办迷你工作坊以供其他学习小组的成员参与互动。每个教师职业发展日结束后,各部门相聚一堂集思广益,探讨如何将自己在学习小组内学到的知识应用到下学期的教学中。这一体系对教学的促进显而易见,在协和古北,随时随处都能见到教师们互相探讨学习、交流教学经验。

 

Since we began this programme back in 2016 we have hosted regular teacher led andragogy and collaborative learning events on a wide range of topics. The impact on the collaborative efficacy of our staff has been palpable and each year we see more and more development. Last year’s Approaches to Teaching and LearningGroup, led to a regional Job-a-like workshop hosting IB teachers from all over the local region. Our First Aid PLG brought SinoAid Heath to certify our staff in first aid for the classroom.  This year we have our first PLG, Visible Thinking Skills,  that hope to be applying their learning time towards certification from Harvard University’s Project Zero programme. Additionally, our Environmentalism Across the Curriculum PLG not only brought ecological themes to lessons across the curriculum, from Sciences, to English to PSHE, but also helped to drive forward growing initiatives in being an ever more responsible community when it comes to taking care of the world we live in. Indeed our PLG programme has been a great benefit, not only to our teachers and their growing repertoire of teaching and learning tools, but to our entire community of learners.

该项目自2016年实施以来,一直不断优化,每学期都能在原有基础上产生新的火花:ATL(学习方法)研讨小组主持了华东区域IB教师ATL研讨会。急救学习小组连同上海急救培训中心为全体员工进行了专业的急救培训。本学期新开学习小组更是精彩纷呈:可视化思维能力小组的学习课时将与哈佛大学教育研究生院的项目证书挂钩。此外,跨学科环保主义这一学习小组不仅从科学、英语、个人社会及健康教育多角度探讨生态主题,更致力于唤醒我们内心对地球这一人类家园的责任感,积极参与环境保护。简而言之,员工专业学习组项目对我校教师团队的整体发展大有裨益,而这一正能量亦将促进教学相长。

In our Flipped Classroom PLG, which has been running for two years now, teachers have been able to use our school’s sleek new Mac Lab to record and edit their own videos to share with our students who can access these lessons at home and be prepared for collaborative and engaging learning in the classroom. Members of this PLG, from Maths, to Geography, to English, to Sciences and P.E., have been using the lessons they’ve created here to drive learning in the classroom and give agency and autonomy to our students as they take charge of learning at their own pace.

经过两年的不断探索与学习,翻转课堂小组成员现已能在我校Mac实验室内录制编辑原创教学视频并帮助学生通过这些教学视频为课堂学习与互动做好准备。这些小组成员分属不同学科部门:从数学、地理,到英语、科学和体育,他们以自我提升推动课堂教学,并赋予学生培养自主学习能力的机会。

 

Our long-standing Drama Across the Curriculum PLG has also evolved overtime to expand its reach and influence. Ronald Valle has been leading workshops with our Chinese department incorporating performance skills and helping them to lead students in this important communication skill. Last year the East Meets West ethos of Xiehe really came to life when SUIS Gubei invited teachers from the Hongqiao Town Community to work with our head of Drama, Tim Booth, who has been offering a series of workshops empowering teachers to incorporate active learning, with drama methodology in their teaching and learning across the whole curriculum. This year, our Drama PLG leaders have joined forces with the success of our LAMDA programme, and the leaders are offering LAMDA Acting Level 7 certification for teachers looking to grow their skills in performance, story-telling, public speaking, preparing them to develop these skills in our students from a first-hand perspective.

颇有年头的戏剧学习小组也不断蜕变,扩大其涉及面与影响力。Ronald Valle老师带领我校语文组共同打造工作坊,将表演技巧融入教学,帮助学生提高自己的表达与沟通能力。去年,戏剧部门主管Tim Booth老师为来自虹桥镇社区的诸多老师开班授课,教授大家如何将戏剧方法论融入教学,完美体现了我校的融汇中西精神。今年,戏剧小组更将结合我校LAMDA项目(伦敦音乐戏剧艺术学院项目),为期望在表演、故事叙述、公共演讲等方面有所提高的教师们提供LAMDA表演7级认证教学。这些教师学员将在教学实践中活学活用自己的新技能。

 

Last year’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) PLG began their journey reviewing the school’s SEN policies for our IB Self-study review and are now a driving force behind embedding SEN support throughout our curriculum, and helping teachers to identify and find strategies to meet all of the learning needs of our diverse student body.

作为一所IB学校,为学生的多元需求提供支持是该组织的复审标准之一,也一直是我校关注的重点。特殊教育需求学习小组的成立致力于帮助教师们及时关注不同学生的特殊需求,制定相应策略,以满足多样化学生群体的学习需求。

 

In our Staff-Wellbeing PLGs, over the years our teachers have learned how to model self-care, embrace, and foster a growth mindset, and develop a series of positive psychology routines to embrace our circle of influence and develop collaborative efficacy as a team.

而通过员工福利小组的不懈努力,我们的教师们学会了如何接纳自我、关爱身心、拥有成长心态及其他各项积极的心理习惯。我们坚信健康活力的身心状态极大程度地提高了团队协作能力、使我们的员工队伍焕发出更大更强的正能量。

 

In short, we take our mission statement very seriously; at SUIS-Gubei we strive to develop agency and passion for learning so that as global citizens we will embrace the values of honesty, perseverance, and community in making the world a better place.Not only do we believe our students deserve the best opportunities to learn about the world around them and the power they have to build a better world, but all of our community; our teachers, our counsellors, our technicians, our administrative staff, and our parents alike, deserve this opportunity. We believe our PLG programme enables our staff to find their own agency in effecting positive change in the classroom, and creating a learning environment that will inspire and enable our students to do the same.
