上海师范大学附属第二外国语学校继三月份的“科学展”之后,迎来了“社会科学展”。本次“社会科学展”与之前的“科学展”相比更加偏向人文研究。


The Science Fair in March was followed by the Social Studies Fair in April. Compared to the Science Fair which the department held, this Social Studies Exhibition is more inclined to the Humanities research.

本次“社会科学展”主导人是Mr. Les Ver Vers。在他的带领与分工下,9、10年级学生创作出了多种色彩搭配的“埃及法老”面具,并且需要发挥想象备注你喜欢的“法老”陪葬品。有的同学写了苹果手表、索尼电脑;有的要带音乐CD入葬;也有同学秉承“活到老,学到老”的精神,要带书籍陪葬,脑洞大开的学生们在创作中释放了自己的“天性”。


The Social Science Fair was led by Mr. Les Ver Vers.Under his leadership it was arranged that the 9th and 10th grade students design and create a variety of multi-colored Egyptian Pharaoh death masks and various necessary items they would choose to be buried with, in an Egyptian tomb. Some students decided that these items would be an Apple Watch or a Sony Computer; some wanted to be buried with music CDs. Some students who hold education in high esteem decided to take books with them. This project gave the students free reign in their imaginations and the results were fascinating.


10年级Honor班同学完成了“世界各地的旅行”展览,英、法、美、德、意依然是热门选择,不过学生表示“走遍世界,还是祖国风光秀丽。”看到这部分孩子逐渐成为“学贯东西,承载多元文化”的主角,让不少带课老师甚感欣慰,培养世界眼光的人才目标指日可待。


The Grade 10 Honor students completed the exhibition: “Travels Around the World”. Britain, France, America, Germany and Italy are still popular choices, but the students all agreed that travelling around their own country is a wonderful experience. “Our motherland is a beautiful place,” one student said. Through this exercise the students gradually discover the global world that we are all part of. The teachers are glad to see that our students are developing a worldwide vision day by day at this school.

11年级学生的主题是制作3D微小模型,大部分学生翻阅“世界历史长卷”,有的选择了“诺曼底登陆”;有的选择了“哥伦布航海”;有的选择了“偷袭珍珠港”,这些历史事件深深的影响了世界文明发展进程,体现了学生逐渐成熟的世界观。


The Grade11’s were given the task to make Dioramas, or Dioramas. Students could choose any topic from World History. Some chose the Normandy Landing, others chose Columbus’ voyage. Another group’s choice was the devastatingly surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. These important historical events have deeply influenced the development of world civilization and reflect the gradually maturing world view of our students.


12年级学生的主题是“经济商机”。有的同学设想为重病患者提供专属定制服务,有的同学设想开设24H便利店,有的同学则发扬了“奇思妙想”精神,执意要在“越南卖假发”。“越南卖假发”同学以其清晰的逻辑,“不走寻常路”的方式吸引大家的关注,有理有据的论证说服听众支持他,该同学充分展示了商业天赋。相信他的未来可期。


The theme for the 12th graders was Economic Opportunity. Some students envisaged providing customized services for the seriously ill while others envisaged opening 24H convenience stores. One of the students got really creative and had the idea of selling wigs in Vietnam. This unusual idea attracted a lot of attention. With his clear logic and valid arguments, the Vietnamese wig-selling student convinced the audience to support him, which fully demonstrated his business acumen. We believe in his successful economic future….


本次“社会科学展”真实有趣,大多数同学通过参与这些项目,不再把“作业”看作是“任务或者负担”,而是看成“探究式学习”,并认为这种“探究式学习”更有利于自己掌握知识。他们说:“辛苦了老师,因为这样的项目会让老师花费的时间远远超过批改作业”。这种“教学相长”的教育氛围一定会培养更多人才,让我们共同期待下一次展示吧。


The Social Science Exhibition was truly fascinating. Most of the students participated in these projects. Instead of viewing assignments as “tasks”, they realized that learning through research was more conducive to the mastery of knowledge. They said: “This is actually more difficult for the teachers, because such a project will take them far longer to assess than correcting homework. This educational atmosphere and mode of teaching and learning together will certainly develop our skills.” We look forward to the next show!
