Hypercorrection- The additional and increased change in thinking when you realise that something you thought was correct is in fact incorrect. The greater your original, misplaced, confidence, the larger your change in thinking.

The relevance to IAs is that retrieval practice and the testing effect are widely believed to improve retention of skills and knowledge. Meanwhile, hypercorrection is a corrective to over-confidence, the greater the pupil’s confidence that they have answered a test correction correctly the greater the learning gain when they receive feedback that they were not right.
